Living History at AG Museum

On February 15th, the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of South Carolina will present their monthly Living History Day. Designed as a family event, exhibitors will portray farm life prior to 1950 and into the 1800s. Guests can press apples, learn to hew a log, see how the stone grinder was used to sharpen knives and axes, weave on an 1830s floor loom, do chores, and learn about old-fashioned canning and food preservation techniques. Visitors can meet the blacksmith and the rope maker, and make a ring toss toy and a rope doll. Guests will also get a chance to interact with museum animals and learn about backyard birds, past and present.

As most of the activities can be held inside or under cover the event will be held rain or shine. This is a drop-in event so visitors are welcome anytime between 10 AM and 3 PM. Admission is $10 a family (parents and children) or $5 for a twosome or a single. No food vendors will be on the premises and visitors are encouraged to picnic on a blanket or under the museum’s pavilion.

The museum is located off HWY. 76, between Pendleton and Clemson, directly across from the stoplight at Tri-County Technical College. Regular open hours are Sunday through Friday, 12 noon until 5 PM and Saturday, 10AM-5PM. Admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated. If scheduled in advance, group and school tours are also available and the pavilion is available for rental.
